Published: Tuesday, April 28, 2009 Ken Dryden came fifth when he ran for the leadership of the Liberal Party in 2006. If leaders were chosen on their convention speeches, though, he might have come first.
Dryden was memorable that December evening in Montreal. It wasn’t his style or his rhetoric. It was his instinct and his idea — his idea of Canada — that was compelling.
The most cerebral of politicians, Dryden talked about the spirit and the possibility of Canada. He talked of a party and a people worthy of Canada. He talked about how big we can be.
