"We the undersigned feel enormous gratitude for the sacrifice made by all the Canadian Armed Forces through the ages in defence of this country and its values; acknowledge the very special nature of the sacrifice made by those who fought in the First World War in appalling conditions and with terrible loss of life; note that only three First World War veterans remain; and urge the Prime Minister that their sacrifice, and all of those they served with under arms from 1914-1918, be celebrated by offering a state funeral to the family of the last veteran of the First World War resident in Canada."

Dianne O'Neil Bathurst NB My great uncle, William Pentland died on the 8th of August 1918 from a shrapnel wound and is buried in France. I do have more details and photos of his tombstone ect. but have to look up the information when I have time to. The main thing he did, as he lay dying, was to tell his commanding officer that his Brother Douglas Pentland was only 16 and to get him out of there. The military then sent D

Bernice Paris Oakville ON My uncle, Rene Lalonde, served in the first World War and was wounded at Vimy Ridge. He survived and returned home. My other uncle Oscar Leroux was in the second world war and was stationed overseas for 7 years. We should always remember their sacrifices.

Don Houston two-mountains QC I believe that it would be a nice thought for those old timers to at least know they will have a respectful send off, after all they must of been through in there life time it,s the least we can do for the remaining soldiers from ww1 and it will inspire canadian unity as well to bear witness to such an event good luck to them and god willing they live to see it
