"We the undersigned feel enormous gratitude for the sacrifice made by all the Canadian Armed Forces through the ages in defence of this country and its values; acknowledge the very special nature of the sacrifice made by those who fought in the First World War in appalling conditions and with terrible loss of life; note that only three First World War veterans remain; and urge the Prime Minister that their sacrifice, and all of those they served with under arms from 1914-1918, be celebrated by offering a state funeral to the family of the last veteran of the First World War resident in Canada."

Mike Smith Guelph ON Please accept this submission as my personal support for the cause applicable to honouring our oldest living war veterans.

Martin Brown Shilo MB Let's do something right for a change and stop turning our backs on our heritage and history. History in Canada has become a skeleton in our closet and it's not.

Barbara Bode Ottawa ON I totally agree. We NEED to remember ALWAYS. We need to mark this an occasion to remember so that our young people have a good understanding of how important this mark is.

Catherine Plesz Montreal QC I feel this is the least we can do for Veterans.

Angela Burgess Renfrew ON My grandfather T.W. Bathurst was in the war. He was very proud of Canada's effort although he rarely spoke about it in detail.

Ed Hrycyk Mississauga ON It's the least we can do. Today's kids (and some adults) take our freedoms for granted that these soldiers died to protect and maintain.

Gary Loftus Toronto ON Great idea! You may take it further and have 3 state funerals: one for each century touched directly by those who fought the war: 1800s, 1900s, and 2000s. Also, a funeral for each of the last three.

Tim Gallipeau Estevan SK We need to send our troops (young and old) a clear message of our heartfelt gratitude!

Greg & Linda Cameron Ottawa ON Please do this to demonstrate our appreciation for the sacrifices made by these men on our behalf.
