"We the undersigned feel enormous gratitude for the sacrifice made by all the Canadian Armed Forces through the ages in defence of this country and its values; acknowledge the very special nature of the sacrifice made by those who fought in the First World War in appalling conditions and with terrible loss of life; note that only three First World War veterans remain; and urge the Prime Minister that their sacrifice, and all of those they served with under arms from 1914-1918, be celebrated by offering a state funeral to the family of the last veteran of the First World War resident in Canada."

Daniel Wieromiej Whitby ON It would be dishonourable not to hold a state funeral honouring our veterans.

Lorne Prince Sutton West ON I heartily concur with your proposal. In fact I just recently learned that I had another great-uncle (Lawrence Prince) who died at Arras and whose remains were never found. Trench warfare represents a hell on earth to me that I just cannot fathom.

Brenda Wall Burlington ON There is no reason that the Government cannot do this. The cost is nothing compared to what is wasted on a daily basis.

Richard Tremble' Nelson BC I agree that honouring the last veteran to die with a state funeral would be be fitting, and a show of compassion and respect for the common man which would be felt across our great, but often divided nation. The gesture would add soul to a government all to often thought of as cold and uncaring towards the common Canadian. The same should also apply to the last veteran of WW2.

Brian Volkmann Ajax ON We should honour who ever is left. These men gave their all for our Country. The last three veterans should all be given State Funerals.
