"We the undersigned feel enormous gratitude for the sacrifice made by all the Canadian Armed Forces through the ages in defence of this country and its values; acknowledge the very special nature of the sacrifice made by those who fought in the First World War in appalling conditions and with terrible loss of life; note that only three First World War veterans remain; and urge the Prime Minister that their sacrifice, and all of those they served with under arms from 1914-1918, be celebrated by offering a state funeral to the family of the last veteran of the First World War resident in Canada."

Cheryl White Niagara Falls ON I think this is a fantasic idea. Truth be told, we should give the rest of these men a State Funeral, rather than "make a contest" of this, i.e. last man standing. I am a strong believer of the thought that "If you love your freedon, thank a vet". I am a registered member of the RCL and the BCVA, I fly a Canadian flag in my yard, and am proud to be Canadian.
Clarence White North Bay ON this is a great thing that we are doing to support the WW1 men and women of our great country.
Brian Zinck Halifax NS I'm aware of the current Harper governement's views and enforcement of procedure in matters such as what is being proposed with this petition but I still hold out some hope that Mr. PM Harper will lead the charge on this matter so to speak in honour of those whom in trying to lead a very DIFFERENT type of charge paid a much higher price than politicians do when something they undertake goes wrong

Beverly Cowie Hiawatha First Nation SK As a retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces, I completely support this request. To have survived that war and be able to live with the horrors of it, and still manage to reach the ages these two gentlemen have; stands as testimony as to their strength and character. Our youth of today need heroes - people they can look up to and aspire to emulate. Let us give them to them. By acknowled
Albert Hock Ottawa ON I am a CF member currently serving with the UN in Sudan. Honouring our veterans will help the present generation remember the past and learn about selfless sacrafice. Hopefully this will keep war far away from Canada for many more years.
