The Dominion Institute provides educators and interested Canadians with a variety of educational programs, events and resources that help engage youth and all Canadians in learning about our history, shared citizenship, and democratic institutions and values.

Institute programs fall under three broad themes: memory, identity and democracy.


Ontario Veteran Community Archive
The Ontario Veteran Community Archive is an online collection of stories, pictures, and documents which house the unique experiences of Ontario’s veterans. The archive will capture and preserve the stories of Ontario’s veterans and make them accessible for future generations. Upload or browse veteran stories at www.ontarioveteranarchive.ca

The Memory Project will visit eight new Ontario communities this year as part of Veteran Appreciation Days 2009 more

 

The Memory Project – Stories of the Second World War
This project will provide every living Canadian veteran of the Second World War who wants to share their story of service and sacrifice with the opportunity to do so. The Dominion Institute will record the oral history of these veterans and digitize their artifacts and memorabilia. The Institute will create the definitive record of Canada’s participation in the Second World War through thousands of first-person accounts of servicemen and women. Visit www.thememoryproject.com


The Memory Project
Access a Speakers’ Bureau of more than 1,500 veteran volunteers from across Canada who visit with Canadian youth to share their stories of service and sacrifice and explore the online Digital Archive containing more than 1000 stories of Canada’s war veterans at www.thememoryproject.com.
Passages to Canada
Educators, Community Leaders or Business Professionals can host an event with one of over 650 prominent immigrants and refugees through the national Speakers’ Bureau. Interested Canadians can also explore an online database featuring the stories and artifacts of immigrants and refugees. www.passagestocanada.com.
Aboriginal Writing Challenge
Young Aboriginal Canadians (14–29) showcase their creative writing talent and compete for cash prizes in this national short story contest. www.our-story.ca.

The Canadian History Report Card

The Institute has assigned each province and territory a grade based on the quality of its Canadian history curriculum at the high school level (grades 9-12). More
